Samsung sets up EUV wafer foundry production line, mass production of 7nm chips can also be foundry 3nm in the future

The production line/factory has started construction in February 2018, and testing wafer production will begin in the second half of 2019. The first batch of products will be delivered to customers in the first quarter of this year. At present, V1 has invested in the production of 7nm and 6nm EUV mobile chips, and in the future, up to 3nm process products can be found.

According to Samsung’s arrangement, by the end of 2020, the total investment in the V1 production line will reach US$6 billion, and the total production capacity of advanced processes below 7nm will be three times that of 2019. Dr. ES Jung, president of Samsung’s manufacturing business, said that the V1 production line will work with the S3 production line to help the company expand its customers and respond to market needs.

Samsung now has 6 wafer fabs around the world, including 1 8-inch and 5 12-inch. Previously, Samsung Electronics had stated that it planned to invest 133 trillion won to upgrade its semiconductor business by 2030.

According to the plan, 73 trillion won of the 133 trillion won investment is for technology research and development, and 60 trillion won is for the construction of fab infrastructure, which is expected to create 15,000 jobs. Samsung’s goal is to be in 2030. Not only to maintain the lead in memory chips, but also to become a leader in logic chips.
